Forward Madison FC has re-signed Mitchell Osmond, a 28-year-old defender from Sydney, Australia, pending league and federation approval. Osmond returns to the Flamingos for his second season with the club after starting in 27 of Forward Madison’s 30 games last season. The Australian looks to further his leadership in the squad this season after serving as the Club’s captain in 2022.
Head coach Matt Glaeser is ecstatic to be able to bring back Osmond. “Mitch was our leader and captain last season. He has a steady presence, he’s experienced, good on the ball, and he has the potential to be one of the best center backs in the league,” Glaeser said.
Osmond’s presence on the backline had a major impact on opposing offenses last season. The 6-foot-3 defender finished second on the team in clearances (69), blocks (15), and interceptions (38), while he also contributed a team-high 1,744 passes with a passing accuracy of 87.9% by the end of the season.
Osmond explained that there’s more to be done for the Club in 2023. “There’s unfinished business… I’m excited to give the fans a season to be proud of and put Forward Madison amongst the contenders for a championship,” Osmond said.
Prior to playing for the Flamingos, Osmond was selected 94th overall by Minnesota United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He then made the move to the USL Championship where he played for Indy Eleven from 2019 to 2020. With Indy Eleven, Osmond made 24 appearances before moving on to Energy FC for the 2021 season.
