Forward Madison FC has signed Christian Chaney, a 28-year-old forward from Fresno, California, pending league and federation approval. Chaney joins the Flamingos following a successful stint with Central Valley Fuego FC last season.
The FMFC coaching staff revolved around one word for Chaney: dominant. “Christian’s a proven goalscorer. He’s big, powerful, good in front of the goal, and he will play a key role in helping us to score goals this year,” Head Coach Matt Glaeser said.
Chaney’s professional soccer career began collegiately with the Fresno City Rams. The forward played four collegiate seasons with the Rams before joining the Fresno Fuego in the USL League 2. In his first year with the Fuego, Chaney scored an impressive 16 goals in 26 appearances. His strong professional debut season helped Chaney earn a spot with Sacramento Republic and then Fresno FC, who both play in the USL Championship. With Fresno FC, Chaney continued to produce. The 6-foot-2 striker contributed 11 goals over 48 appearances during two seasons with Fresno.
Following his time with those two California USL Championship squads, Chaney played for a few more clubs before landing with Central Valley Fuego FC for the 2021 season. With Central Valley, Chaney more than dominated on the attack. Chaney led his team in goals and shots, while he finished 9th in the league with 10 total goals across 27 appearances on the season.
Chaney is looking forward to the change of environment and playing in front of the FMFC Faithful. “I’m looking forward to the support that [FMFC] has with their home field. It just seems like a really good vibe, a really good energy,” Chaney said.
