MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC has signed defender Robert Screen for the 2023 season, pending league and federation approval.
Screen started his soccer journey in Raleigh, North Carolina where he went to Wakefield High School. After graduating, Screen attended the University of Kentucky and was a five-year starter for the team, captaining the squad in his final season with the Wildcats. Screen, a SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll award-winner, was named to the C-USA Second Team in 2020 and 2021 while also receiving C-USA Tournament Champions honors in 2021.
In 2021, Screen was one of three Wildcats to appear in all 21 matches, earning 20 starts for the squad. He finished the season with six assists, including a pair against Duquesne and Old Dominion. Screen helped the Wildcats win their second Conference USA Tournament title in program history and was on the pitch for all 90 minutes in UK’s 2-0 shoutout over Santa Clara in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.
“Robert was a five-year starter at Kentucky that brings attributes that we like in our defenders,” Head Coach Matt Glaeser said. “He’s good on the ball and in 1v1 situations and has solid service in wide areas. We’re excited to see what he can contribute to the squad this year.”
