Forward Madison enters Saturday’s match in 1st place in USL League One, with Greenville sitting in 7th.
Coaches and USL League One 2023 Records:
Forward Madison FC (7-3-4)
Head Coach: Matt Glaeser
Greenville Triumph SC (5-5-4)
Head Coach: John Harkes
Key Players to Watch:
Bernd Schipmann: Schipmann’s shot-stopping abilities have been in full force this season for FMFC. He shows up in big moments and makes huge game-changing saves that have led to Forward Madison victories. After another shutout this past Wednesday, we can expect to see Schipmann act as a key player in the Flamingos defense on Saturday.
Nazeem Bartman: Bartman makes the list for the second time in a row after scoring Forward Madison’s first and only goal this past Wednesday against Tormenta. Scoring two weeks in a row, Bartman is on the hunt for more goals. We can expect to see his eye for goal and strong attack on Saturday.
Isidro Martinez: With his composure and soccer intelligence, Martinez helps run the midfield for Forward Madison. Constantly looking to keep possession and move forward, Martinez helps build and create some of FMFC’s best opportunities. We can expect to see him in the starting lineup again Saturday bringing his strategic plays and work ethic to the middle of the pitch.
Key Match Up:
Lyam MacKinnon vs. Christian Chaney
Mackinnon leads Greenville in number of goals scored so far this season with six goals, two goals behind the top scorer in the league. With Chaney trailing just one goal behind, sitting at 5 goals, these stats could easily be altered after Saturday night’s match. With the two strikers going head-to-head we can expect to see exciting opportunities coming from both players in the match. With Chaney sitting at the top of the leaderboard for total number of shots this season in USL League One, we can expect to see lots of opportunities stemming from his strong build up play and eye for goal.
Keys to the Match:
- Creativity in the final third: When it comes to the final third of the field, both teams will need to look to be more creative by penetrating through the middle and capitalizing on opportunities. After a patient and calm game against South Georgia Tormenta FC, FMFC will need to be more creative and energetic to maximize their opportunities.
- 50/50 balls: When it comes to individual battles all over the field, it will be very critical during the match to win the 50/50 balls to help gain and keep possession. Earlier this season, FMFC was scored on by Central Valley Fuego because of a lost 50/50 battle in the air, so it will be crucial that Forward Madison earns balls like this to prevent the same type of goal from being scored on them again.
Previous and Next Match:
The Flamingos come into this match after a 1-0 road victory against South Georgia Tormenta FC. Next up, Forward Madison will return home to Breese Stevens Field to play Central Valley Fuego FC on Saturday, July 8th, at 7pm CT.
