Forward Madison FC Finish With An Important Point At Home

‘Mingos have their third consecutive shutout against top-ranked Northern Colorado

MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC stayed at historic Breese Stevens Field to play Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC on Wednesday, September 20th. This was FMFC’s second midweek match in seven days, as they continued to push for playoffs in their final five games left of the regular season. The match kicked off just after 7pm CT.

At the first whistle, Northern Colorado put pressure on Forward Madison’s backline. Despite attempts at long balls over the top, FMFC’s defense stayed strong and compact, with a few big saves from goalkeeper Bernd Schipmann to keep the game scoreless. As the half continued, Madison’s offense picked up, and in the 36th minute, the home squad was awarded a penalty kick in the box. Midfielder Aiden Mesias stepped up to take it, but Northern Colorado’s goalkeeper Lalo Delgado made a diving save to maintain the 0-0 scoreline. The half ended, with both sides heading into the locker room in a tie.

Forward Madison’s top goal scorer, Christian Chaney, started the second half for the ‘Mingos, in hopes of sparking offensive action for his team. FMFC controlled the tempo for most of the half, with Chaney and midfielder Jayden Onen creating dangerous opportunities in the final third. However, Forward Madison was unable to capitalize and the match ended 0-0.

“I thought we were pretty solid defensively against a very good attacking team,” said head coach Matt Glaeser. “We’ve got to continue to do a better job of creating chances and taking risks in the final third.”

“We need to find a way to seal games and dominate both sides of the ball to secure our place in the postseason,” said captain Mitch Osmond. “The goal is still to host the playoff game, and we have a big opportunity on Saturday to take a step towards that.”

“Keep showing up, keep supporting us,” said defender Sam Brotherton. “We are determined to bring a playoff game to Madison because there isn’t a better atmosphere in USL League One. We know how special it would be.”
