Forward Madison is riding a hot streak, winning their last two matchups, including a 1-0 last-second win against Chattanooga this past Wednesday at Breese Stevens Field in Madison. The ‘Mingos welcome USL League One newcomers One Knoxville SC to Breese for the first time this Saturday, August 12th, at 7pm CT. FMFC currently sit in 2nd place in USL League One, while Knoxville enters this match in 9th.
Coaches and USL League One 2023 Records:
Forward Madison FC (10-5-6)
Head Coach: Matt Glaeser
One Knoxville SC (6-9-7)
Head Coach: Mark McKeever
Key Players to Watch:
Stephen Payne: Wednesday was quite the night for the defender for the ‘Mingos. Payne was prominent in the Flamingos attack all night long and was finally awarded with a goal in the dying moments of the match to secure three points. His versatility around the pitch causes all sorts of problems for the opposition. Look for him to continue his great run of form against Knoxville.
Jayden Onen: Onen is the team leader with five assist on the season, including one to Payne for the winning goal on Wednesday night. With his ability to weight passes and his movement in the attacking third, Onen will provide FMFC with an attacking spark at home against the squad from Tennessee.
Bernd Schipmann: Another match, another clean sheet for the league-leader in that category. Schipmann will look to strengthen his Golden Glove campaign on Saturday against a team that relies heavily on counterattacks and set pieces.
Key Match Up:
FMFC Attack vs One Knoxville Defense: With a team that’s comfortable sitting deep and allowing opponents to out-possess them, Forward Madison’s attack will need to step up and be creative to carve out their chances Saturday night. With new addition Pierre da Silva providing even more attacking prowess for the Pink and Blue, expect a match that the home side controls from the get go.
Key to the Match:
- Control the Midfield: FMFC’s Aiden Mesias and Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu will play important roles on Saturday night, aiding the ‘Mingos in keeping possession in the opponent’s final third. If FMFC is able to win the battle of the midfield, expect a multitude of chances to flow for the home side.
Previous and Next Match:
The Flamingos come into this match after a 1-0 victory against Chattanooga Red Wolves on August 9th. Their next match is on the road against South Georgia Tormenta on Saturday, August 19th at 6:30pm CT.
