Forward Madison FC has signed 27-year-old defender Timmy Mehl, pending league and federation approval. The 6-foot-1 California native most recently played for the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC while on a loan from the Tampa Bay Rowdies. The defender has spent time with multiple USL Championship teams and has the strength and size that the FMFC coaching staff was looking to add to their backline.
Head coach Matt Glaeser is ready for Mehl’s impact on the squad. “ Timmy earned second-team all-league honors last season. He has lots of quality in the back, wins his aerial duels, and he’s just a great all-around experienced center-back that will provide quality to the backline,” Glaeser said.
Mehl kicked off career by playing four years of collegiate soccer at Indiana University from 2015 through 2018. The Hoosier made 72 total appearances and notched 6 goals and 4 assists over the four-year span. Mehl was selected to the All-Big Ten team twice before he ended up signing with North Carolina FC in 2019.
After one season with NCFC, Mehl joined Loudoun United for two seasons where he made 39 appearances. For the 2022 season, Mehl signed with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he was then loaned to the Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. With Chattanooga, Mehl had an impressive season, in which he logged 2 goals, 13 shots, 85 clearances, 20 blocks, 33 interceptions, and 24 tackles.
Mehl has high aspirations for the squad in 2023. “I came to Madison because of the coaching staff and the city… I want to learn and grow as a player under this coaching staff. I want to win a trophy for this city,” Mehl said.
