Forward Madison FC Re-Sign Defender and Captain Mitch Osmond
MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC has re-signed Mitchell Osmond, a 29-year-old defender from Sydney, Australia, pending league and federation approval. Osmond returns to the Flamingos for his third season with the club after starting in 57 of Forward Madison’s 63 games over the last two seasons. The Australian looks to further his leadership in the squad this season after serving as the Club’s captain two years in a row.
Osmond’s presence on the backline had a major impact on opposing offenses last season. The 6-foot-3 defender led the team in clearances (130) and blocks (17) and had the second-most passes on the season for the team (1,762).
“I’m excited to return our captain and leader on the backline,” says Head Coach Matt Glaeser. “Mitch has had a strong impact for us as a key player and leader and is a big part of our plan to return a core group of players in order to maintain continuity, build on the positives from last season, and compete for a trophy in 2024.”
Prior to playing for the Flamingos, Osmond was selected 94th overall by Minnesota United in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. He then made the move to the USL Championship where he played for Indy Eleven from 2019 to 2020. With Indy Eleven, Osmond made 24 appearances before moving on to Energy FC for the 2021 season.
The ‘Mingos will play their first home match of the season on Saturday, April 13th against Henny Derby rivals, Richmond Kickers. Season tickets for the 2024 Forward Madison season are on sale now. Secure your seats to every match, including the Home Opener, here.
