Forward Madison FC Re-Sign Leading Goal-Scorer Christian Chaney
MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC has re-signed Christian Chaney, a 29-year-old forward from Fresno, California, pending league and federation approval.
Chaney‘s offensive presence did not go unnoticed for his first season with the ‘Mingos. Chaney scored 11 goals and had one assist in 31 appearances, leading the team in both goals and shots taken. Chaney also secured himself a spot on the USL League One Team of the Week three times throughout the season. He’ll look to continue dominating up front for the Pink and Blue next season.
“Chaney has the ability to be one of the best players in our league,” said Head Coach Matt Glaeser. “He was top 5 statistically in several categories that we place value in and we feel with another year in our environment, he will improve his game to new heights. His power, athleticism, and ability to score in different ways make him a key returner for us, and we feel that he has even more to give the team in 2024.”
Chaney’s professional soccer career began collegiately with the Fresno City Rams before joining the Fresno Fuego in the USL League 2. In his first year with the Fuego, Chaney scored an impressive 16 goals in 26 appearances.
His strong professional debut season helped Chaney earn a spot for two squads in the USL Championship, before landing with Central Valley Fuego in 2021. With Central Valley, Chaney led his team in goals and shots and finished 9th in the league with 10 total goals across 27 appearances on the season.
