Forward Madison FC Sign Former USL League One Champion, John Murphy
MADISON, WI: Forward Madison FC has signed John Murphy for the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval. The midfielder joined South Georgia Tormenta FC for the 2023 USL League One season, where he appeared in 28 matches, logged ten starts, and had one assist.
“John is a player we’ve had our eye on for the past few seasons who fits the profile we like in our midfield players,” said Head Coach Matt Glaeser. “He’s aggressive and strong in the tackle to help us break plays up and seal the opposition, as well as technically proficient to help us progress the ball within our style of play.”
The New Jersey native began his career playing for the United States Youth National Team from U-15 to U-17. Before playing for Clemson University, he also participated in a U-18 National Team Camp for Ireland, where he holds dual citizenship.
In 2021, spent time with Union Omaha in its USL League One winning season, appearing eight times and assisting once. The following year, Murphy joined the New York Red Bulls II for the 2022 season. He served as captain and recorded two goals and three assists in 30 appearances before signing with South Georgia in 2023.
