Match Action
MADISON, Wis. — Forward Madison FC entered Wednesday night looking to bounce back after its 2-1 loss to AC Boise. Back at Breese Stevens Field, where the Flamingos remain unbeaten in league play, Madison came out with plenty of energy and control.
The ‘Mingos came out strong, creating several early chances, but Greenville’s defense held firm. Karamoko had an early opportunity ruled offside, while shots from Castro, Munjoma and Torres were blocked or cleared. Madison continued to control possession and pile on the pressure, but couldn’t find the finishing touch.
Greenville broke through in the 27th minute after JT Harms made an initial save. Madison continued to attack with Karamoko and Bolma creating danger with crosses in the 33rd minute, while Karamoko had a goal ruled offside in the 38th. The Flamingos’ persistence paid off in the 43rd minute when Karamoko rose to head home a cross and level the match at 1-1, marking Madison’s 17th set-piece goal of the season. Shannon then won a big challenge in the 45th minute to set up a chance for Ryan Carmichael, but Greenville held firm.
Madison entered halftime with a 9-5 shot advantage and two shots on target to Greenville’s one. The ‘Mingos carried that attacking momentum into the second half, quickly earning their sixth corner of the night as Shannon continued to make an impact defensively and create opportunities going forward.
Ryan Carmichael nearly gave Madison the lead in the 51st minute, forcing a save from the Greenville goalkeeper with a shot on target. Castro came close just two minutes later, sending an effort narrowly over the end line, before Forbes added another dangerous chance in the 54th minute with a shot just over the crossbar. Madison continued creating chances through the remainder of the half, with Annor, Karamoko, Castro and Edwards all contributing in the attacking third. Despite the sustained pressure, Greenville’s defense and goalkeeper held firm.
At the other end, Harms came up big when Madison needed him most, making a key save in the 90th minute before another crucial stop in the 95th to preserve the 1-1 scoreline. After a back-and-forth second half filled with chances, Forward Madison and Greenville Triumph SC finished level at 1-1, with the ‘Mingos remaining unbeaten at home in league play.
“Disappointed to not come away with three points tonight but I’m proud of the boys digging out a goal to get level,” says goalkeeper, JT Harms. “We are going to continue to lean into our amazing fans at home and make them proud on the road this weekend.”
“We wanted three points, but we fell short at home tonight. It’s a quick turnaround with a game on Sunday in Portland, so we’ll look to bounce back,” said Hakim Karamoko, who scored the Flamingos’ lone goal of the night.
