Forward Madison FC welcomes Sarasota Paradise to Breese Stevens Field on Saturday, Sept. 12, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. CT as the Flamingos celebrate Family Night and Vintage & Vinyl Night. Madison enters the matchup riding the momentum of a 2-0 victory over Corpus Christi FC, maintaining its hold on third place in the USL League One standings and sitting just two points behind the teams tied for first and second. With the playoff race heating up, the Flamingos will look to secure another three points at home and strengthen their position in the standings as the postseason approaches.
LAST MATCH RECAP – MAD v CRP
MADISON, Wis. — Forward Madison FC controlled the pace from the opening whistle Saturday night in Corpus Christi, creating the majority of the early chances and keeping the hosts under pressure.
Madison created the first dangerous opportunity in the 13th minute when Ryan Carmichael fired a shot toward goal, but the Corpus Christi goalkeeper made the save to keep the match scoreless. The hosts had a chance to take the lead in the 22nd minute after earning a penalty kick, but JT Harms came up with the initial save. Corpus Christi found the rebound and put it in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed following a handball, keeping the match scoreless.
The Flamingos continued to create opportunities throughout the half, with AJ Edwards and Roman Torres both testing the Corpus Christi defense. Josh Bolma also forced a save in stoppage time, while Harms handled a Corpus Christi attempt moments later to keep Madison level.
Madison carried its momentum into the second half, controlling possession and finally breaking through in the 61st minute. Claudel N’goubou found the back of the net off an assist from R. Carmichael to give the Flamingos the lead. N’goubou continued to make an impact, drawing a penalty in the 66th minute. Carmichael stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 67th minute, tying Derek Gebhard’s club record for the most goals scored in a single season.
The Flamingos continued to control the match as they closed out another three-point performance on the road.
