MADISON, Wis. — Forward Madison came out on the front foot in Chattanooga, immediately taking possession and pushing into the Red Wolves’ attacking third in the opening minute, but even with that strong start, Chattanooga struck first in the seventh minute, finding the breakthrough off a corner kick.
The Flamingos continued to look for an equalizer, creating opportunities in the attacking third, but Chattanooga’s defense did well to limit Madison’s chances and keep the visitors from finding a clean finish. Forward nearly found itself in more danger in the 37th minute when Chattanooga broke through for a one-on-one opportunity, but goalkeeper Tenzing Manske came up with a big save, while Kerfalla Toure raced back to apply pressure and help disrupt the chance. Chattanooga continued to generate opportunities and control more of the momentum, while Madison worked to find an opening against a Red Wolves defense.
Forward Madison came out of the halftime break with a completely different look, flipping the momentum and taking control of possession. The Flamingos spent much of the second half in the Chattanooga attacking third, consistently creating opportunities. In the 48th minute, Ben Augee delivered a cross toward Claudel N’goubou, who connected with a header, but the Chattanooga goalkeeper came up with a huge save to deny the equalizer.
The attacking pressure continued throughout the half. Ryan Carmichael and Geni Kanyane entered the match and immediately helped spark the attack, creating chance after chance as Madison searched for the breakthrough. In the 80th minute, R. Carmichael found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper but couldn’t get a shot away. In the 93rd minute, Chattanooga created a one-on-one chance, but Manske made another huge save to keep Madison within striking distance.
The Flamingos continued to pressure for an equalizer in the final minutes, earning one last free kick. R. Carmichael stepped up to take it, but the attempt couldn’t find the back of the net as the final whistle brought an end to the comeback effort.
