SETTING THE SCENE
Forward Madison FC heads to Indiana this weekend to take on Fort Wayne FC as the regular season enters its final stretch. After falling to Spokane Velocity on Saturday, the Flamingos will look to bounce back and return to winning ways on the road. With a playoff berth already secured, Madison’s focus remains on earning a home playoff match. Three points against Fort Wayne would help strengthen the Flamingos’ position as they work to bring postseason soccer to Breese Stevens Field.
LAST MATCH RECAP – MAD v SPO
MADISON, Wis. — Forward Madison FC controlled the pace from the opening whistle Saturday night in Corpus Christi, creating the majority of the early chances and keeping the hosts under pressure.
Madison created the first dangerous opportunity in the 13th minute when Ryan Carmichael fired a shot toward goal, but the Corpus Christi goalkeeper made the save to keep the match scoreless. The hosts had a chance to take the lead in the 22nd minute after earning a penalty kick, but JT Harms came up with the initial save. Corpus Christi found the rebound and put it in the back of the net, but the goal was disallowed following a handball, keeping the match scoreless.
The Flamingos continued to create opportunities throughout the half, with AJ Edwards and Roman Torres both testing the Corpus Christi defense. Josh Bolma also forced a save in stoppage time, while Harms handled a Corpus Christi attempt moments later to keep Madison level.
Madison carried its momentum into the second half, controlling possession and finally breaking through in the 61st minute. Claudel N’goubou found the back of the net off an assist from R. Carmichael to give the Flamingos the lead. N’goubou continued to make an impact, drawing a penalty in the 66th minute. Carmichael stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 67th minute, tying Derek Gebhard’s club record for the most goals scored in a single season.
The Flamingos continued to control the match as they closed out another three-point performance on the road.
KEYS TO THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE BURISH GROUP AT UBS
Check out the UBS Keys to the Match as the Mingos take on Fort Wayne FC:
- All Eyes on Offense: Madison created opportunities against Spokane but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Flamingos will look to turn those chances into goals against Fort Wayne, with every point important in the push for a home playoff match.
- Settle the Score: The Flamingos took the lead in their June meeting with Fort Wayne before settling for a 1–1 draw. This time, Madison will look to build on an early advantage and stay sharp through the final whistle to bring home all three points.
- Bring It Home: A playoff berth is secured, but the Flamingos are still working to bring postseason soccer to Breese Stevens Field. A win against Fort Wayne would strengthen Madison’s push for a home playoff match and give the Flock more to look forward to down the stretch.
