MADISON, Wis. — Forward Madison FC battled Fort Wayne FC to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night, earning a point on the road in a tightly contested match with playoff implications for both sides.
With Fort Wayne fighting to keep its playoff hopes alive and Forward Madison looking to secure a home playoff match, both teams entered the match with plenty to play for. The opening minutes featured back-and-forth possession, with each side working to establish control.
Fort Wayne threatened early, putting a shot on target in the eighth minute, but goalkeeper JT Harms was there to make the save. Just two minutes later, Kerfalla Toure came up with a crucial defensive stop to keep the hosts at bay.
The Mingos responded with an opportunity of their own in the 19th minute, when Ryan Carmichael put a shot on goal that was turned away by the Fort Wayne goalkeeper. Despite chances at both ends, neither side could find the breakthrough before halftime, sending the teams into the locker room level at 0-0.
Forward Madison came out with increased urgency in the second half, pressing higher and creating several promising opportunities. However, the ‘Mingos were unable to find the finishing touch needed to take the lead.
Harms once again proved vital in the 53rd minute, making an impressive save in a one-on-one situation to deny Fort Wayne. Three minutes later, Turner Humphrey delivered back-to-back blocks to shut down another dangerous attacking sequence.
The Mingos continued to push forward, Claudel N’goubou and R. Carmichael nearly connected for the opening goal in the 63rd minute, but they couldn’t quite get a clean shot away. Forward Madison continued to generate chances from set pieces, finishing the night with 12 corner kicks but unable to find the finish.
After 90 minutes of back-and-forth action, neither side could find the back of the net, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw.
