Forward Madison FC will play its inaugural season in Madison-inspired jerseys, which the team unveiled Saturday afternoon during a fan event at Breese Stevens Field. The four kits – home, away and two goalkeeper shirts – were manufactured by hummel and designed in-house at FMFC by Cassidy Sepnieski.

According to Forward Madison Managing Director Peter Wilt, the jerseys are meant to show the team’s love for its home city.

“The designs and jersey quality both turned out great,” Wilt said. “While the away, alternate and goalkeeper kits will surely have different looks in the future, our hope is that the classic home design will become a standard known for all time. The Madison city flag color base, the sash representing the isthmus and the inclusion of the Forward flamingo will become iconic representations of Madison’s professional soccer team.”

The home jersey is light blue, with a white sash down the center representing Madison’s isthmus. Its sleeves feature a flamingo wing pattern, and its side contains a sublimated flamingo design. The jersey also features pink highlights including hummel’s signature chevrons, signifying “Forward”. The words “Forward For Madison” are printed inside the collar.

Forward Madison FC has signed an agreement with Dairyland Insurance to be the team’s primary jersey sponsor, the club announced Friday. Dairyland will serve as one of the club’s main commercial partners, and its logo will feature on the front of Forward Madison’s jerseys during its first three seasons.

Forward Madison will unveil the Dairyland-sponsored home and away jerseys on Saturday, March 9 during an event at Breese Stevens Field. According to Vern Stenman, president of Big Top Sports & Entertainment, Forward Madison’s ownership group, Dairyland is an ideal match for the club.

“We’re delighted to have found a partner in Dairyland that shares our vision of what professional soccer can mean to Madison,” Stenman said. “They have Wisconsin roots, care about the local community, and even their name is reflective of Wisconsin values. It’s the perfect fit for us.”

According to Dairyland president Pete Anhalt, Forward Madison has already established itself as a club that cares about its community.

Fans are invited to come to the club's brand-new team store at historic Breese Stevens Field  at 1 p.m. that day, where the kit will be revealed to the public at 1:30 p.m.

Along with the jersey reveal, Forward Madison is also launching a brand new merchandise line, with a variety of Hummel gear included. Players will be at the event wearing the kit and will take photos with fans.

2018 had been a rough year for Jiro Barriga Toyama. After graduating from Florida Gulf Coast University, he went on trial for Minnesota United, but didn’t make the team. Things got worse when Barriga Toyama picked up a shoulder injury, which left him out of the game for seven months due to surgery. His chances of starting a pro career looked slim.

Earlier this year, though, Barriga Toyama got another chance. He was invited, once again, to train with Minnesota United. On Jan. 29, when Minnesota opened its preseason schedule with a friendly against USL League One side FC Tucson, Barriga Toyama was there, sitting on the bench, waiting his turn.

In the second half, with the Loons up 2-1, Barriga Toyama came onto the field. There was one problem, though: he had been told to line up as a left-sided winger, when he’d been playing as a left back for the past two years. Undeterred, Barriga Toyama pressed forward. This was his chance, and he had to make something of it no matter the circumstances.

“I didn’t get nervous,” he said. “I just focused on what Coach (Adrian Heath) told me to do.”

Early in the second half, Barriga Toyama made a late run into the 18-yard box and kicked out at a loose ball. Incredibly, he’d scored a goal. Then, suddenly, he got another opportunity, and Barriga Toyama evaded the defenders and scored again. Two goals. Finally, late in the game, he made a long run into the box again, opening up space. Barriga Toyoma received a hard-hit pass, took one touch to move it in front of him, opened up his hips, and scythed it into the far corner of the goal. His third of the match.

“Before the game, I didn’t think about scoring a hat trick,” Barriga Toyoma said. “I was just surprised when I scored the third goal.”

Forward Madison FC has signed Japanese-Colombian winger/defender Jiro Barriga Toyama to its inaugural roster, the club announced Tuesday. Barriga Toyama, 23, came to Head Coach Daryl Shore’s attention during his trial with Minnesota United, FMFC’s partner club in Major League Soccer.

“We were able to see Jiro while we were with Minnesota during their preseason in Arizona,” Shore said. “We really liked his qualities and both us and Minnesota thought it would be the right fit to get him with our group.”

According to Shore, Barriga Toyama can play either as a fullback or a winger on both sides of the pitch. He started in FMFC’s March 2 preseason game against Saint Louis FC as a right winger, but scored a hat trick for Minnesota United against FC Tucson on January 29 while playing on the left side.

“Jiro is a player who has an attacking mindset and likes to get forward,” Shore said. “He is very comfortable on either side of the field. His attacking abilities along with his defensive awareness make him a good match for our team.”

Barriga Toyama grew up in Japan and trained with JEF UNITED for six years before moving to the United States in 2014. He played first at Barton Community College (KS) before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University, which he graduated from in 2018. During college offseasons, he gained experience playing in the National Premier Soccer League for the Brooklyn Italians and FC Wichita.

For Barriga Toyama, Forward Madison’s offensive approach under Shore fits in perfectly with how he likes to play.

“I’m good at 1-on-1 situations – I run a lot and love to move into the attack,” Barriga Toyama said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Forward Madison. I can’t wait for the season to start and to make our supporters proud.”

“Jiro is a player who has an attacking mindset and likes to get forward,” Shore said. “He is very comfortable on either side of the field. His attacking abilities along with his defensive awareness make him a good match for our team.”

Barriga Toyama grew up in Japan and trained with JEF UNITED for six years before moving to the United States in 2014. He played first at Barton Community College (KS) before transferring to Florida Gulf Coast University, which he graduated from in 2018. During college offseasons, he gained experience playing in the National Premier Soccer League for the Brooklyn Italians and FC Wichita.

For Barriga Toyama, Forward Madison’s offensive approach under Shore fits in perfectly with how he likes to play.

“I’m good at 1-on-1 situations – I run a lot and love to move into the attack,” Barriga Toyama said. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Forward Madison. I can’t wait for the season to start and to make our supporters proud.”

Forward Madison FC has received Tanzanian midfielder Ally Hamis Ng’Anzi on loan from Major League Soccer's Minnesota United, the club announced Monday. Ng'Anzi, who is 18 years old, becomes the youngest player on FMFC's inaugural roster.

"Hamis is a player that comes highly recommended from very reliable scouts in Africa, and we are happy that MNUFC was able to sign him and send him our way," Head Coach Daryl Shore said. "He is a box-to-box midfielder who can also play in a holding role, and although he is young, he will add more quality to our team and compete for a chance to play."

Fresh off a stint in the Czech Republic, Ng’Anzi played alongside current FMFC forward Zaire Bartley at MFK Vyskov. He has three years of international experience, having led Tanzania’s U17 and U20 age groups through AFCON (African Cup of Nations) competition and earned the captain’s armband throughout his time in both cycles. Most recently, he played with the U23 team before joining Vyskov in late 2018.

Ng'Anzi also becomes Forward Madison's second player from Tanzania, joining midfielder Vital Nizigiyimana, who was born there but grew up in Atlanta.
